The long way to the promised land
I have been supporting Man United since 1995, as I remember. Cantona's kung fu, the Class of '92, the matches against Rotor Volgograd - all these are my first memories. So, by the season 1998-99 I had been a true United fan.
Unfortunatly, Russian TV channels didn't broadcast a lot of EPL, English Cup and Champions League matches in those years. Mainly, we got information from newspapers and sport tv shows (where you could see highlights). But the final was shown! And that night became one of the best in my life!
I could not get past this book. Each chapter is music to my ears! Threre are a lot of match details, information about team members and events off the field. The authors narrate about why Solskjær didn't join Spurs, how Beckham went through a rough patch after the World Cup, why Yorke became the life and soul of the party, etc.
About the fly in the ointment. You can find mistakes in the book. I guess, the main one is a Bayern Munich squad in the final (see Subs not used in this picture).
And the last thing. I'm from Russia. And my level of English is far from stunning. If you are not a native speaker or your level is less than Upper-Intermediate, I guess, you cannot read the book without a dictionary. There are immense (as for me) number of uncommon adjectives and adverbs in the text. You must be ready for this.
