The Russian trained on the Mutua Madrid Open's blue courts for the first time this Wednesday, and she shared her thoughts about them with us once we session was finished. After her amazing victory in Stuttgart last week, the Russian landed in Madrid this Wednesday for her first training session in the Caja Mágica. Sharapova spoke to us about her improved performances on clay and her opinion about the incorporation of the blue courts at the Mutua Madrid Open.

After your first training session, what do you think about the new blue clay courts?

It’s a little bit different. I’m here for the first time, but I think it’s unique. It’s obviously what the tournament wants. It’s all about being unique and different. I think that for the show and the excitement of the tournament. It’s very nice.

You won in Rome in 2011 and in Stuttgart last week, do you feel more comfortable on clay courts?

In the last 2 years I have enjoyed playing on clay courts much more because I feel better physically, stronger and more comfortable. I look forward to the clay season than I did before.

What message would you like to send your fans in Madrid who will be following you during the tournament?

I have really supportive fans here in Madrid, I hope that they can come out and watch and support me. They mean so much for me, not only here in Madrid but around the world. Their vocal support and fan mails help me throughout the competitions.
