I am very excited to be coming back to Brisbane next year. I really enjoyed playing at the event in 2009 and 2010 and I’m looking forward to returning in January. It is one of my favourite times of the year and I love competing in Australia. The people are very friendly and open and I love the culture. Everyone is just so relaxed and easy going and laid back and that is what I really like.

It′s been a while since I′ve played in Sydney and I′ve kind of missed it. I′ve spent a lot of time in Sydney over the years and I was there during the off-season. It′s an exciting event and I always receive great support there, so I′m really looking forward to this tournament.

Chapel Street is good for shopping and there are some good restaurants there too. Many players stay at Crown Casino: it’s a fun entertainment centre, with a few nice restaurants, including Nobu, which is my favourite. One of my favourite things to do in the evenings is to walk along the Yarra River after dinner.

Unfortunately I haven′t had the best experiences on the court at this tournament, because I have been injured twice in Doha. All the players are treated so well in Qatar and I hope I can have some great results there in future.

I love Indian Wells. It’s so quiet and peaceful: I am able to relax easily there, and I’ve played some of my best tennis there because of that. There are a few really good resorts in Indian Wells, where you can just relax by the pool. The worst thing about this city is that everywhere closes quite early, so you have to be sure you don’t go to dinner too late! I love the scenery: no matter where you are, you can always see some mountains in the distance.

The tournament itself is actually in Key Biscayne, which is an island linked to the city of Miami by a man-made bridge. The most popular place for players to visit is probably South Beach, where many of the cool restaurants and bars are. I love the beach, so occasionally I go there on my off days to relax. Miami is a vibrant, exciting city: the Latin influence is strong.

I visited the ‘Caja Magica’, or Magic Box, during the Sony Ericsson Championships in 2007 – it looked like an amazing venue. It’s one of the newest and most exciting stadiums in tennis and I′ve enjoyed playing there for the past two years. As a city, Madrid is a wonderful place with some beautiful buildings. I enjoy trying to speak Spanish and I remember going to some very good restaurants back in 2007.

In terms of sightseeing, it’s hard to beat Rome: there are so many wonderful places to visit, for example the Coliseum, the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel and the basilica of St Paul. The architecture is incredible in Rome, and you can walk between many of the most popular tourist sites. Of course, one of the most fun things to do is eat pizza or gelato in a café in the evening!

In terms of traditional sightseeing, Paris definitely rivals Rome, and I have visited most of the main areas, for example the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Actually, the year I won Roland Garros, we went to the Arc de Triomphe after our celebration dinner. Shopping in Paris is great: I like to visit the designer stores on the Champs-Elysees if I have time.

Eastbourne is a lovely tournament, very close to the sea. The atmosphere is nice and laid back, and it′s the perfect setting to prepare for the Wimbledon. But winning the tournament itself is also a huge challenge, because there are always a lot of top players there.

Wimbledon is an unusual tournament because most of the players rent houses in Wimbledon rather than staying in hotels. It makes a very nice change, I can tell you! This means that Wimbledon is the tournament where I spend the most time at home, because we have a kitchen to cook in, so we don’t have to go to restaurants the whole time. But I’ve spent quite a lot of time in central London too (Wimbledon is in the southwest). If I have time, I like to go shopping in Bond Street, which is an old and very traditional area of the city.
